Important Steps to Take Following Adobe Data Breach

Last week, Adobe announced that it was the victim of a sophisticated cyber attack. The software company reported that the hackers illegally entered its network and stole extensive amounts of information, including customer IDs, passwords, credit/debit card numbers and expiration dates, and copies of the source code for some of the company’s most widely used products. 2.9 million of Adobe’s customers were in some way affected by this security breach.

There was no indication that the attackers obtained unencrypted credit card numbers, Adobe said in a statement. As a precaution, however, the company has notified customers via e-mail, as well as credit card companies, about the breach and reset all customer passwords to prevent further unauthorized access.

BBB recommends that all Adobe users take the following steps to protect themselves in the wake of this security breach:

- Even if you did not receive an email from Adobe, change your username and password immediately.

-Do not use your old Adobe password for any other online account. As a general online safety tip, do not use the same password twice for any online account and change your passwords frequently.

-Monitor your credit/debit card history closely if you have ever made a purchase from Adobe. Immediately report any suspicious activity or transactions.

-Be extra careful regarding emails and software from Adobe as they may be compromised as a result of the breach.
